We made Mississippi history Thursday afternoon, as I was sworn in as your 54th State Treasurer and became the first Republican woman to hold that position.

Wow! I could not have done this without your help, prayers, contributions and support. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Just like I promised during the campaign, I walked into the Treasurer’s office Friday morning and started working for you on day one. I will never forget who I am accountable to.

We are going to make great strides the next four years. I look forward to working closely with Governor Phil Bryant, Lt. Governor State Reeves and our great legislature to move Mississippi forward.

Lynn Fitch

Lynn Fitch gave Madison County residents props for supporting her in a successful bid for State Treasurer Tuesday night.

Fitch celebrated her victory at Ridgeland’s Embassy Suites with family, friends and supporters, but despite a year-long campaign, primary and runoff victories, she said the whole thing is yet to sink in.

“It’s just so exciting,” Fitch said. “It’s truly an honor.”

Unofficial results show Fitch easily defeated Democrat Connie Moran with more than 59 percent of the vote.

The general election is going smoothly for Madison County, as voters flow in and out of precincts into the afternoon.

At Madison United Methodist Church, for instance, over 600 people cast votes by 11 a.m.

Precinct bailiff Bob Shirley estimates between 1,800 to 2,000 voters will come to the church today.

The same can be said for various polling locations throughout the county as important contested state and local races and initiatives are up for vote.

Each precinct has 12 voting machines, more than last year. District 2 Elections Commissioner Kakey Chaney said it will be the standard from now on.

Fitch, 50, on leave as state Personnel Board director, defeated Democrat Ocean Springs Mayor Connie Moran and Reform Party candidate Shawn O’Hara.

Fitch, also a bond attorney, is the first woman since Evelyn Gandy to assume the treasurer’s post.

Gandy, who died in 2007 at age 87, was elected treasurer in 1959 and went on to serve two terms.
